As the days are getting shorter and nights are getting longer we invite you to embrace the darkness, get grounded, bringing your energy back to yourself and to the Earth.
The Mantra Apanam Dhehi invokes the qualities of getting grounded and nourished. It can be translated as: “may the downward moving energy be nourished”.
It’s a beautiful Mantra for this time of year. A time when our energy can easily become scattered with the needs and wants of others (including our ego). When we are busy getting caught up in the Christmas and festive season of shopping, cooking, socialising and doing. If you have a tendency to get carried away or if you find it challenging and exhausting with the expectations of the holidays this is your Mantra.
What is the being behind the Mantra?
Apana is one of the directions of Prana, or energy, in our being. Its physical locations are in the pelvis and legs. It’s responsible for elimination and many of our bodily functions. And it is what keeps us connected to the earth. If Apana is obstructed or unbalanced in any way our whole being will suffer. On an energetic and emotional level, it may be that we feel anxious, disconnected, stressed or ungrounded.
In Ayurveda balancing the direction of Apana is one of the first steps towards health and wellbeing:
Apanam Dhehi: “may the downward moving energy be nourished”.
This Mantra inspired Yogandha Ground Rollerball. This specific blend brings a little stillness into daily life and brings you into the moment. Apply throughout the day when you need calm, have a migraine or a headache. It's also a wonderful oil to set your intention at the start of your yoga practice. And it’s perfect at this time when most of us have a tendency towards stress and busyness.
The essential oil blend is created to underline the sense of calm. The aroma is rich, warm and woody.
- Mindful Sandalwood relaxes and soothes - calming irritations, mental and physical, including the strongest of headaches
- Frankincense slows and deepens the breath inducing a feeling of peace
- Vetiver comes from a deep-rooted Indian grass; plants with deep roots ground and earth us. Known as the 'oil of tranquillity', it has sedative and calming qualities
- This blend also contains Cedarwood, Lavender and Black Pepper and was formulated through 3 years of meditation by yoga teacher, Sinead Duffy, to bring calm into your every day.
Using scent and a Mantra is a beautiful ritual to become more present and connected.
Repeat the Mantra Apanam Dhehi as an invocation and reminder to nourish that downward grounded energy connecting you to the earth. Use Yogandha Ground Rollerball on your temples, pulse points and the third eye inhaling the soothing aroma. Keep it in your bag or pocket and apply through the day. Repeat the Mantra as an affirmation.
We hope you enjoy using these powerful Mantras to stay present through the holidays and beyond.
